BRCL Referee Liaison's "DEAR REFEREE" emails and RepliesKudos2006/October-"Compliments to the AR" [The following compliment was sent to "Dear
Referee" on10/22/06 by a PYSL (Piedmont Youth Soccer League) fan
regarding an Assistant Referee (AR) who helped officiate a U18 Girls
game hosted by the Radford Soccer Club on 10/22/06.]
"My compliments to the AR on the spectators' side
of the game. He is the first AR I have seen all season (really, for many
seasons) who actually 'whipped' his flag so that it made a noise for the
Center Referee to hear. If needed, he did this several times and then
signaled with his flag when he had the Center's attention. He did this
not only when signaling a throw in, but also when subs were at the
center line (even though across the field) and when he saw an offside or
a foul. It was very professional, and, in my humble opinion, something
that all ARs should strive toward. The Center and other AR were good
too, but this AR's performance really stood out to me. Great
job!"
2006/October-"Awesome Job" (The following message was sent to "Dear Referee"
on 10/02/2006 by a PASA -- Peaks Area Soccer Association -- fan who
attended a U12 Girls game on 10/01/2006. PASA was the home team and the
losing team.)
"The official did an awesome job! I can't say
enough [about] what a great job the official did, and I felt like all
the players for both teams were in good hands. He kept total control of
the game and issued warnings to try to prevent further [fouls]. Please
relay our appreciation to him for a job well done!!"
2006/October-"Controlled The Game" (The following message was sent to "Dear Referee"
on 10/01/2006 by a Valley AFC fan who attended a U18 Girls game on
10/01/2006. The home club was Valley AFC; the visitors were FSC -
Freedom.)
"Center Referee Vicki Weise blended in and
controlled the game. She let the girls play, but showed the ability to
control the game when needed. [She is] the first ref who knew how long
the halves were. Good job!"
2006/September-"Thank you so much" The following message was sent through the BRCL's
"Dear Referee" button on the League website on 9/25/2006 by a PASA fan
(Peaks Area Soccer Association).
"Thank you so much for your detailed response --
this helps a lot! I really appreciate the BRCL for having this link and
a place for novice parents to get their questions or concerns
answered."
2006/September-"Treat[Ed] Fairly" (The following two comments were sent to "Dear Referee"
on 9/17 and 9/18/2006 by two different Danville fans regarding the
Center Referee for the boys match between the Danville Blast U19B and
the visiting Valley AFC Celtics U17B. The Danville team lost.)
(1st comment) "This particular ref seemed to be a really nice guy and
tried very hard to treat everyone fairly."
(2nd comment) "He did a good job keeping the players under control and called a good game. No one was carded." 2006/September - "very pleased. . . thus far" (The following message was sent to "Dear Referee" on
9/11/2006 by a team official from a Monticello United club.)
"We have been a part of the BRCL for over a year. We have been very
pleased with the officiating thus far."
2006/September-"one of the best" (The following message was sent to "Dear Referee" on
9/10/2006 by an FSC - Freedom Soccer Club spectator who attended a U12
Boys game on 9/9/2006. The home club was Valley AFC.)
"I just wanted to send a note since we aren't allowed to interact
with the referees. The young lady who refereed our game is one of the
BEST referees that I have ever seen. We had her last year for a VAFC
game as well. She is very fair and explains to the kids what they are
doing wrong and just lets them play. Last year I went to her after the
game and told her this in person, but I didn't do it this year because
of the new rules about engaging the refs. If you could pass this on I
would appreciate it, because I would like her to know. Thanks."
