BRCL Spring 2008 Schedules are Published 2/25/08

BRCL's Spring 2008 Schedules are published.

Each team's final no play dates are published.

Additional important dates and deadlines can be found on BRCL's Spring 2008 Timeline.

Player Substitution Clarification 10/8/07

Substitution is no longer allowed when a player receives a yellow card. That player may be substituted during any of the following stoppages in play.

Those times are:

  • Prior to a throw-in, by the team in possession
  • Prior to a goalkick; by either team
  • After a goal is scored, by either team
  • When play is stopped in order to attend to an injured player, by either team
  • At half-time, by either team

If it is the 2nd yellow card for that player in a single game (2 Yellow cards equal a Red card and the player is ejected from the game immediately).

Note: No substitution is permitted on corner kicks.

BRCL Implements New Sportsmanship Reporting System

BRCL is implementing a new Sportsmanship reporting system. The sportsmanship scores that are recorded on the orange game card by the center referee are entered into each team's match report by BRCL's assistant scorekeeper. The match report is available on each team's schedule page by clicking on the game's score.

Both the division and team schedule page standings will contain two columns.

  1. Sportsmanship Average (SP_AVG) - This is the average of three sportsmanship scores for all games as reported on the orange card. The center referee reports three separate sportsmanship scores: coaches, parents and players. The sportsmanship scale is:
  2. +2= very good behavior
    +1= good
    0= average
    -1= below average behavior
    -2= bad behavior
  3. Sportsmanship Week (SP_WK) - This is the average three sportsmanship scores for the last game.

Note: BRCL's orange card utilizes a sportsmanship scale of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4. For the Fall 2007 season, BRCL is subtracting 2 form the sportsmanship score. Spring 2008's orange cards will be adjusted to the +2 to -2 scale.

The Sportsmanship Reporting System is a new product and improvements in this system will occur during the fall season.

BRCL Makes Two Rule Changes

When not to pay referees

  • In the event the center referee is a no show, a match can only be played if the substitute center referee is certified and that referee is known to the home team's assignor. If no locally known certified center referee is available, the game is to be rescheduled.
  • Do not pay a parent who serves as linesman.

Yellow carded players

BRCL no longer requires a yellow carded player to be substituted. A coach may decide to substitute the yellow carded player, but can only substitute that player per the Laws of the Game.
